I really love the fact that I get to see the real every day face of countries around the world. Until I joined DA, my view of the world and people was limited by what was shown on the news. Unfortunately, in all but a few cases, it's bad news. There are so many beautiful places and people out there I would never get to see. Thanks DA, and Thank you all the artists of the world. I can't :+fav: everything I want but please know I get to see through your eyes.

--- I know my favs are a mess, some day I'll take the time to organize it---

medical expenses are out of control! Over $300 to have some guy grab my nuts and stick his finger in my butt, it would have been cheaper to hire a hooker for the same results. Add the lab fees and I could have afforded a new motor for my truck.

Yesterday, I went to Katy's to buy a gift and a card for a lady at the home from Germany (she's 90 and homesick). I found they had no cards from Germany this year. When asked why, they replied that their shipment arrived but they were all made in China so

Still waiting for the Meade ETX-80BB Backpack Observatory Telescope. Maybe I'll get some overtime when the snow falls and can buy one.

Who am I? I think that is the most difficult question I have to answer. My name is Mike. I live in Rock Island, Illinois. I can be contacted at mdtrudell@hotmail.com

Economically – I’ve been a journeyman electrician for 25 years. I worked as a commercial electrician until our shop closed in 2008. Now I work maintenance at a nursing home. Before all that, I had been a clerk in the army and worked in private security.

Artistically – Art lover and amateur photographer. I would have to say I’ve only been interested in the artistic aspects of photography since 2005. I enjoy creating pieces inspired by renaissance paintings, portraits (classical or nudes), macro, landscapes and waterscapes. I am mostly self-taught but have taken a class at Saint Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa. I’ve shot a couple of weddings and done several portrait shoots. I would like to meet/work with/learn from other artist near Quad Cities.

Socially – I am involved in medieval reenacting as a fighter (both heavy weapons and rapier), I teach armoring and medieval dance. I am also involved in a local folk dancing group that does early American and Welsh dances. Aside from that I am probably a little introverted.

Emotionally – Moody and often depressed. Maybe that is why I love Chiaroscuro so much.

Any other questions, I’ll be glad to answer.

New Pentax Camera

Journal Entry: Mon May 28, 2012, 10:53 AM

For the past several months, my Pentax k100d has had a small problem.  The thumb wheel is not working correctly.  Since I shoot mostly in manual mode; that is vital for adjustments.  This has gone out before (May 2011) and was repaired at a cost of $140.00.  My wife suggested I just get a new camera rather than repair this one.  Since, between the last repair, a sensor cleaning and this repair the total cost would be over half what I paid for the K100d camera.

With all the expenses I have had lately, being off work for my son's heart surgery,  I have been really apprehensive about spending that much money for a "toy".  My wife feels the "book deal" could lead to other projects and I should be prepared with a fully operational camera.

Thank you dear for the support and encouragement.

I would have liked to have been able to get a Pentax K-5 or K-30 (the higher end cameras).  However, I have purchased a K-r.  It is listed as a entry-level camera vs  the K100d which is listed as a mid-range; but the K-r seems to have numerous advantages over the K100.  If anyone has any experience with the K-r, please, your input is appreciated.  BTW - for the record, the reason I have chosen to go with Pentax over the other brands, is because I already have so much invested in lenses to convert to say Cannon or Nikon.

I wish Pentax would re-think the thumb wheel design.  There are so many functions it controls on the camera, one would think they could develop a more durable means of making the adjustments.

Update:  2 hours till my meeting with the book guild about shooting the illustrations... heart rate up nerves shot.
